SULPHUR - SENSATIONS Sensation of burning: - of the soles of the feet, with seeking of cool areas in the bed - of the top of the head, of the palms - of the skin, mucous membranes, the congested parts, hemorrhoids and varices Sensation of warmth, more rarely cold Pruritus aggravated by bed warmth, and by contact with wool Shooting, tugging, tearing painsSULPHUR - MODALITIES Aggravation - from bed warmth; from warmth in confined rooms - from warmth in general, but the patient is sensitive to cold air and cold baths; he catches cold easily, from being uncovered or from the slightest draft - in damp weather, from applications of cold lotions - from hot moist applications - from standing immobile - when resting, or on the contrary, during movement - on standing up straight, or getting up from a chair - after sleeping - at 11 a.m. - periodically (every 7 or 14 days) Improvement - in warm dry weather (neither too warm, nor too cold) - from movement, sometimes from rest Some of the modalities enumerated above may appear contradictory. They can in fact be encountered in the same patient in the course of a 24 - hour cycle, or as a pathological condition evolves. These alternating modalities are in fact characteristic of an overall reactive mode which will call for different complementary medicines at different moments.SULPHUR - ACCOMPANYING SIGNS Redness of orifices: the edge of the eyelids, the external auditory meatus (or the whole of the ear), the edges of the nostrils, lips, urinary meatus, or anus Irritant secretions Cravings and aversions - great thirst and poor appetite - desire for sweets and candy, alcoholic drinks, highly seasoned foods - aversion for meat Diarrhea at night and particularly in the morning, urgent, forcing the patient out of bed Light sleep Perspiration - localized sweating which can become generalized, foul - smelling - very offensive perspiration of the armpits or the genital region Fever - hyperemia of the head and face, continuous or in flushes, red heels, cold feet or on the contrary, burning soles and palms - great thirst - skin is at first very dry and burning, then with partial sweating (nape and occiput) - acidic, irritant, malodorous perspiration
