Marine Beta Carotene, from the sea algae Dunaliella salina, is a natural source of Beta Carotene. Beta carotene occurs in the natural cis-form as well as the trans-form. Beta Carotene is more correctly expressed in milligrams than in I.U.’s (International Units) of activity. Beta Carotene is pro-vitamin A and is converted upon absorption at the intestines into vitamin A (retinal) only if needed. Otherwise, Beta Carotene functions as a singlet oxygen quencher and antioxidant.
