Information for consumers interested in obtaining product knowledge in the ever growing dietary supplement industry.

The purpose of this site is to help the user easily locate information for a vitamin supplement, enzyme, or homeopathic product that they are currently taking or considering using.

  • Vitamins

FruitA vitamin is an organic molecule required by a living organism in minute amounts for proper health.

Vitamins are classified as water soluble dissolving easily in water, or fat soluble, as they are absorbed through the intestinal tract with the help of lipids.

Humans must primarily get vitamins or their metabolic precursors from outside the body, most often from the organism's diet. Examples of vitamins that the human body can derive from precursors include vitamin A, which can be produced from beta carotene; niacin from the amino acid tryptophan; and vitamin D through exposure of skin to ultraviolet light.

    Minerals

    Food Pyramid

Dietary minerals are the chemical elements required by living organisms, other than the four elements Carbon, Hydrogen, Nitrogen, and Oxygen which are ubiquitous in organic molecules. There are two classifications of minerals: bulk minerals (US RDA > 200 mg/day) or trace minerals (US RDA < 200 mg/day).

These can be naturally occurring in food or added in elemental or mineral form, such as calcium carbonate or sodium chloride. Some of these additives come from natural sources such as ground oyster shells. Sometimes minerals are added to the diet separately from food, or taken as mineral supplements.

    Dietary Supplements

Suppelements A dietary supplement is intended to supply nutrients (usually vitamins or minerals) that are missing or not consumed in sufficient quantity in a person's diet.

With today's growing health conciousness of so many people, a multi-billion dollar industry has developed specializing in dietary supplements that address specific needs or concerns of the user. For example, Hoodia for weight loss, Glucosamine or Hyaluronic Acid for joint pain relief or joint health, Horny Goat Weed or Swedish Flower Pollen for male potency.

The numbers are growing daily and we will continue to add dietary supplement information as they arrive on the market.

    Homeopathy

Homeopathy Blue Tubes Homeopathy is a system of alternative medicine that treats "like with like". It consists of administering a medicinal substance that, with high doses in the healthy individual, by intoxication, may provoke a set of symptoms similar to those that would be present in their illness. This method is also the basis of the principle of vaccination.

With hundreds of homeopathic medicines or 'remedies' on the market today, we are gathering information and listing their most common uses.

    Enzymes

Enzymes turn the food we eat into energy and unlock this energy for use in the body. They catalyze and regulate nearly all biochemical reactions that occur within the human body.

Enzymes Food Enzymes are introduced to the body through the raw foods we eat and through consumption of supplemental enzyme fortifiers. Raw foods naturally contain enzymes providing an erogenous source of digestive enzymes when ingested. However, raw food manifests only enough enzymes to digest that particular food, not enough to be stored in the body for later use. The cooking and processing of food destroys all of its enzymes. Since most of the foods we eat are cooked or processed in some way and since the raw foods we do eat contain only enough enzymes to process that particular food, our bodies must produce the majority of the digestive enzymes we require, unless we use supplemental enzymes to aid in the digestive process. A variety of supplemental enzymes are available through different sources.
